Imitation of Life befasst sich mit dem Spannungsfeld zwischen Original und Kopie. Die Arbeit setzt sich einerseits mit einer narrativen Bildabfolge auseinander. Zur Thematik gesammelte Beispiele formen durch Dekonstruktion und Neuanordnung neue Verbindungen. Andererseits finden vier fotografische Reportagen Platz, welche imitierende Architektur in der Schweiz untersuchen. Die Dramaturgie und das Layout der Publikation spielen mit der Frage nach Autorschaft und stellen das von Marius Steiger gesammelte Material in direkte Verbindung mit dem von ihm selbst produziertem. In einem Anhang werden alle Informationen wie Ersteller, Entstehungsjahr und Art des verwendeten Bildmaterials aufgelistet.
Die daraus resultierende 216-seitige Publikation ist eine subjektive und ortsspezifische Reflexion über das Zusammenwirken von Original und Kopie, und wird selbst zum Kunstwerk.

Imitation of Life explores the tension between original and copy. On the one hand, the publication deals with a narrative sequence of images. On the subject collected examples from the arts, fashion and everyday life, form new connections through deconstruction and rearrangement.
On the other hand, there are four photographic reportages that examine imitative architecture in Switzerland. The dramaturgy and layout of the publication play with the question of authorship and place the collected material by Marius Steiger in direct connection with his own production. An appendix lists all information such as creator, year of creation and type. The resulting publication of 216 pages is a subjective and site-specific reflection on the interaction of original and copy, and becomes an artwork itself.
